PARKING ON RACE DAY

There are over 4,000 parking spots at the fairgrounds and surrounding lots but with the number of people all arriving for the race at basically the same time, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

1) KNOW YOUR ROUTE-  Coming to the expo will expose you to the lay of the land and the roads to get you there.  Be sure to take a look around while you are there to familiarize yourself with the area.  We will be parking in all of the grassy lots within the fairgrounds and Lots A, B, C & D as well as the Airpax Business Complex on Highland Street.

2)  OBEY INSTRUCTIONS - We will have a professional parking crew there to direct traffic and get you parked in a orderly and quick fashion.  Lots will open on a rolling basis as needed to assure that everyone parks in a proper spot.

3) DO NOT PARK ON PAVED ROADWAYS WITHIN THE FAIRGROUNDS - Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you park on a paved roadway with the fairgrounds.  These are designated Fire Lanes and some of them are used on the race route.  You will be towed.

3) ARRIVE EARLY - Everyone is going to the same place at the same time.  Don't add additional anxiety to your race morning by running late.  Road Closures start at 5:45am so you should be there before you are affected by these.

EcoTips for the Frederick Marathon

We invite you to join Internation Marathon Participant Hajime Nishi in making Frederick an Ecomarathon.  What is that, you ask?  An Ecomarathon is not just a marathon or running event. It's an environmentally responsible life style for all species on earth and for its future generations.
You don't need to run 42,195 kilometers or 26.2 miles to become an ecomarathoner. If you'd already started the environmentally responsible life style in your everyday life, you are an ecomarathoner!

Sponsors, volunteers, and spectators will provide live entertainment throughout the course. From music and costumes, to signs and cheering, participants will be entertained from the start to the finish!

How To Be A Great Spectator

  • Make noise to encourage the runners: cheer, clap, or play music
  • Cheer for everyone!  Calling out names or bib numbers is great.
  • Position yourself on a hill or more challenging portion of the course, where runners will need the most encouragement.
  • Make distinctive signs and move to different locations throughout the course. Runners will remember you!
  • Do something to make runners smile. Laugh, sing, dance, wear a costume, etc.
  • Runners love snacks!  Candy is always a welcome sight on the course.
  • Have a party with friends and neighbors if the course travels past your area.

Other Tips To Keep In Mind

  • Prepare for the weather and be dressed to stay outdoors for a long period of time.
  • If you see a runner who needs some help or medical attention, please inform a course monitor or volunteer. If the runner's injury looks serious, call 911 immediately.
  • Please do not crowd the runners by standing in the street.

Best Viewing Points

  • The Frederick Fairgounds - Runners will start near the track and finish in front of the grandstand. They will also pass the mid-way point on the west side of the Fairgounds.
  • Baker Park - Runners pass here at miles 2 and 4
  • Hood College - Runners pass here at mile 5
  • Spring Ridge - Runners will be in area between miles 18 and 21
